My dearest Dunedin sisters,

Following the publication of the newsletter every fortnight,  I will share with you a Muslimah’s blog my fellow committee member’s and I think you might like. I will post an extract from a post they have made, and will give you the link so that you may check it out.

This week’s blog is A Learning Muslimah.

From her post titled “Good” Innovations?

“…This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as a religion…”
(Al-Maa’idah:3)

Imaam Maalik, rahimullah , said concerning this verse: “He who innovates a new Bid’ah in Islam considering it to be something good is in effect claiming that Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam did not fully convey the message of Islam… So whatever was not a part of the religion at that time (i.e. the time of the Prophet and his companions cannot be considered as a part of the religion today) .

I strongly recommend you take a look at this blog. MashaAllah, sister Habayeb has good advice and reminders we could all benefit from. This sister of ours has described herself as “A muslimah in quest for ilm”, and that I think is something we are all after in this chapter of our lives.

    salaam.

I found it pretty funny that certain groups of feminists seem to equate being male with being powerful, anything manly as something positive and to be striven for. Hence their struggle to turn females into males, in looks, occupation, carriage, personality, thinking, career, and everything under the sun, and call this ‘conversion’ success. Women who chose to be women are deemed unworthy, a shame to the cause so passionately fought by her ‘fellow sisters’. Whether consciously or not, these poor dears are admitting – be it true or false – that males are superior to females.

The society is composed of two main branches, the male and the female, who together comprise the One that is harmony and balance materialized. It is not by seeking equality per se and eliminating differences that women are empowered, but by cherishing and celebrating their femininity, and playing their role as preordained by Faith and Nature. And this, by no means suggest that women should be doormats with mindless, quiet obedience. I wonder whether the Islam-bashing feminists and orientalist had ever looked into the seerah to see the industriousness of Ummul Mukmineen Khadijah and the sharp wits of the beloved Ummul Mukmineen Aishah. Or for something closer to the present, the iron-willed Zaynab al-Ghazali al-Jubayli, Maryam Jameelah , Indonesia’s Tjoet Nyak Dhien and Ibu Kartini, or Malaysia’s Ibu Zain and Shamsiah Fakeh.

Who said that women’s roles are limited within the four walls of her house? While we accept that men have more responsibilities outdoors – both to support the family and to do da’wah to the ummah, this does not mean that women are exempted and should be content on cooking, combing the children’s hair and preparing the bedroom to celebrate her hero. While all those tasks should never be ignored and must be completed as perfectly as possible, women also must realise that there’s a whole community of women out there waiting for their well-guided (not misguided) sisters to help them, to educate them, to treat them, to lift them out of misery, to do da’wah to them, tasks that can only be done best by women for women. Not by men for women. So, whose responsibility is these, if not women’s? The same women who should also bear the glorious wifely and motherly duties at the home.

Like Dr Harlina, a Muslimah leader in Malaysia used to say, Muslimah should be the leaders for all women. And cooped-up, narrow-minded wives with bossy husbands who refuse to share the housework and demand 24-7 attention do not look much like leaders.

Well, women should be real women and men should be real men. Better still – and best, actually – women should be real, true Muslimah and men should be the real, true Muslims. Muslim and Muslimah who live for humanity and the Deen without neglecting the basic tasks to their family and kins, at the same time giving allowance for sacrifices to be made.

To each his or her responsibility, to each his or her due of rewards. Justice and fairness does not lie in total, exact equality, but in the celebration of differences and practical, realistic take of responsibilities.

    And Allah knows best. =)

Wishing sisters and brothers the best in the coming IAW, and all ur future undertakings!

I’m Indri from Indonesia, I will go to Dunedin in the end of August to finish my study. I’m so happy that I found that there is a muslim society in Dunedin, especially in Otago University. I would like to ask how is the weather right now?
    Thanks

    Waalaikumussalam wa rahmatullah

The weather right now is still a bit cold with lot of rains especially in early morning and late afternoon. Might be a good idea to bring a couple of rain jacket and winter jacket. But overall, its getting warmer right now compared to one month back. So hopefully you will be able to cope slowly with unpredictable weather in Dunedin.

Hope this help. We look forward to see you in Dunedin.

    Wassalam

Please for all either moslems or the rest of the world .
islam is simple don’t complicate it i is simply peacfule life ..why all these fatawa, analysis and strange openions and horrible analysis. i’m arabic moslem i know well what is islam. it is simply somthing between the man and allah (god). also about hijab always when any one talk about islam mention hijab what is this.? is islam only hijab . absolutely no ..it is somthing as i said between the women and allah.. > why all this propaganda about hujab.. girls in all the rest of world do every thing including bad things no one deal with such issue like when they talk about moslem women and huijab.. if we are cevilised and democartic let moslems ware hijap like other women in the rest of the world ..the issue is not hijab then please becarful about this point. what when we say mum doing bad things with her son or dad with his daughter. oh my god this is horrible ..it is against the natural life or homosexuals really scared me … if we belive in in freedom and every one is free to do what he belive in if that does’nt conflict with freedom of others please let moslem women take thier rights. islam is only praying and worshiping allah and be kind faithful honest helpful and belive in all prophets. this is logic if it is all from alllah.

Really islam is simple ..every thing in quran it is manner of good sycologically helathy life not this complicated life

      Walikum Assalam WarahmatuALLAHi WaBarakatu!

Thanks for putting the notice for selling your books in MUSA web-blog. However, I would strongly suggest to print the names of the books in papers with your contact details and put them around university notice boards. Also, you should bare in mind that it is almost end of the year and people don’t want to buy books now. If you get no response you should wait until the start of next year you will certainly get good price for them.
